Don't you think Paris is magical? Especially when you see the river Seine and the Eiffel tower. I just love this city. We try to visit Paris at least once a year. However it was the first time in these unaccountable visits we stayed at the Rive Gauche. Before we always stayed in hotels in the first arrondissement. Close to the Seine and close to many shops. However when you see such a nice boutique hotel as La Belle Juliette it's a perfect excuse to break some habits.
It's Sunday morning and we take a taxi from Gare du Nord. It's so quiet in the city and within 10 minutes we already see the Louvre and the Notre Dame. It feels like coming home. While driving through the neighborhood of the hotel we immediately see so many nice shops and restaurants. We drive by Restaurant Le Comptoir and Avant Le Comptoir, the Cod House and we recognise the street of Oenesteria, where we had lunch the last time we were here. I described it in the (Dutch) article about the 10 culinary hotspots in Paris.
Hotel La Belle Juliette is situated in Rue Cherche Midi. A quiet street where you will find common day to day shops and restaurants for the locals. You immediately feel part of the Paris life here. When we enter the hotel, a friendly receptionist greets us and checks us in. We are impressed by the gigantic and old staircase which is so typically French. Despite the fact it is around noon, the room is ready and we can immediately go to our room. It's always nice to unpack your suitcase and fresh up before you enter the city.
We booked a garden superior room as that was the only room available when we booked via www.secretescapes.com. The room is a bit small but most of the rooms in Paris are as the buildings are old. However the decoration is superb and makes us feel at home. There is enough space to store all your belongings and the bathroom has a spacious shower and a separate toilet. The room offers enough to relax and make your stay a comfortable one. There is a iMac to surf the internet and watch TV, a small fridge with complimentary mineral water and a Nespresso to make yourself a nice cup of coffee. When the turndown service has come by, you can also enjoy it with a macaroon.
But there is more to relax yourself at Hotel & Spa La Belle Juliette. In the basement of the hotel you will find a Spa. There is a small swimming pool with jets and a hammam. You can book different treatments and relax in one of the chairs. Before we left we didn't think we would use the Spa but after a long day of walking the refreshing water and the massaging jets are a warm welcome to my legs and entire body. After just half an hour in this sweet little spa, we were ready for a night out in Paris.
Breakfast and lounge
I love a good start of the day, especially as there is so much to explore in Paris. The hotel breakfast is absolutely super. There are fresh scrambled eggs and bacon. There are veggies like tomato and cucumber, different kinds of French cheeses and high quality butter. We got really happy from the little mason jars with fresh fruit. There are different kinds of bread and mini viennoisseries. So instead of munching away a big croissant, you can just enjoy the taste of a little one.
The hotel has a good size lounge and bar where you can sit and relax. Have your cup of coffee there in the morning or a coupe de Champagne before you are going out for dinner. When the weather is warm enough you can also enjoy the garden.
While most of the mainstream shops are located in the vicinity of the Opera, at the Right Bank of Paris, this neighborhood offers a lot more shopping wise. There are more private shops instead of the big brands, it has a more unique feeling and...a lot less busy. Just around the corner of the hotel you will find Le Bon Marché. This department store offers a unique shopping experience with special brands and the opportunity to customise your jeans and shoes. As a foodie you can't miss La Grande Epicerie which is the food department of this department store.
