RECIPE - CHEESE BUTTERFLY APPETIZER
Whether you are giving a fancy schmancy dinner or just having drinks, these appetizers are always a hit! Because of the beautiful shape of these cheese butterflies they make a big impression and the taste is at least as good.
As they need some time in the fridge, you will have to prepare them in advance. But when it's party time, they are done in a jiffy.
Ingredients
100 grams cream cheese (mon chou)
1 teaspoon curry powder
salt and pepper
handful of chopped chives
6 slices of ham
80 grams butter cheese palmiers (I prefer the Van Strien palmiers)
How to
Take the cream cheese out of the fridge and let it come to room temperature. If you don't have time, you can also microwave it for half a minute
Stir in the curry powder, pepper and salt and chives
Take a sheet of cling film at least twice as big as the ham slices
Put down one slice of ham and cover it with the cream cheese mixture with a butter knife of silicon spatula
Cover it with a slice of ham and turn it over, so the new slice of ham is at the bottom
Cover the ham again with cheese mixture and top of with a slice of ham again. Repeat this until you finished all the ham and you end with a slice of ham.
Roll the side ends (lenghtwise) to eachother, making a butterfly of heart shape
Roll it tightly in to the cling film
Leave in the fridge for at least an hour
Cut the roll in thin slices and place the slices on the cheese palmiers. When you have small cheese palmiers, you can also cut the slice in two.
Enjoy!
