HOTSPOT REVIEW - OSTERIA VICINI ROTTERDAM
I used to go to Rotterdam a lot as a child and teenager but since I live in The Hague, my visit ratio went down. Luckily I was invited by Debbie from Deb's Bakery & Kitchen to have lunch in Osteria Vicini in Rotterdam. It is a true hotspot and is an absolute recommendation if you are in the neighborhood.
Osteria Vicini is an all day restaurant and the name is chosen as they want to be the 'go to' restaurant in the neighbourhood. A living room away from home as the Italian name osteria already says. It literally means restaurant for the neighbourhood. It is situated in a former garage and the roughness and industrial elements of it origin are kept.
Antipasti
We were first served many different delicious starters like suppli (fried risotto balls), tomato bruschettas, asparagus with mozzarella and prosciutto and my personal favourite the fritto di calamari. I might even forget some as it was so much.
Serving the neighbourhood
After the antipasti we were showed around the venue as Vicini is more than just an all day restaurant. In the basement they have a room which can be rented for meetings or private events. There is a local dance school and a pop up shop. It truly serves the local neighbourhood.
Primi Piatti & Pizza
In a new setting the main dishes were served like shrimp linguine, gnocchi with duck and different kind of pizzas. Everything was so tasteful and the company was super. We were with a group of 14 bloggers. You can imagine the main conversation was about food and we had some hilarious moments with posing, not eating the first 10 minutes after the dishes were served and lots of cameras everywhere.
Ice Ice Baby
We ended the afternoon with an ice-cream in a separate part of the osteria which has changing destinations. When leaving we received a nice goodiebag with olive oil from Flor Y Sabor, a super handy knife from Kookpunt and a wine opener and cantuccini from Vicini. The entire afternoon was superbly organised by Debbie and hosted by Osteria Vicini. An absolute tasteful hotspot in the Kralingen neighbourhood.
